Oscar’s One Month Ampuversary

Wow.  Today is Oscar’s one month ampuversary.  I’m not sure that time has flown; I think two weeks ago I had told someone it had been a month.  Though time has seemingly crawled, his ability to adapt has been  nothing short of amazing.  His incision has healed well and his fur is coming back. If you’re not up close to him, what you notice most is the flash of the white from his chest that indicates something is missing from his left side.  He’s also doing well getting around. I think he’s faster than the four legged cats! Now that his left side is all healed, we do see him trying and trying to use the leg that’s no longer there. I think sometimes it frustrates him because he looks like he thinks if he tries hard enough that foot will be there. That part breaks my heart for him because he just doesn’t know…  His “good” shoulder also appears to get sore from so much (and different) use.  He’s gained some weight from being less active so we’re working hard to manage his food so he doesn’t get heavy and put more strain on that shoulder.  He does appreciate a good massage to help out the tired muscles!

The weather has been largely uncooperative – at least from the human’s perspective – so going outside with Oscar has been a challenge.  He dearly loves to go outside!  When we get a warm day, we usually go to the hay shed to see if we can locate any critters (mice) to chase in the hay shed.  The limited time outside seems to only frustrate him occasionally.  He’s learned to play with (and tear apart) toys and enjoys his naps in the warm cozy house since it’s so cold outside.  He even jumps up on to our bed and sprawls out as if he’s always done it 🙂  and still enjoys those good upside down naps with his humans while they watch the television at night.  I imagine as the weather gets warmer, the idea of being inside will become less appealing to him and that will present new challenges.  For now, Oscar is doing well!

Ohhh, I love tabbies. You will continue to notice improvements over time. He’s a front leg amputee, right? If so, he’ll start to sit up like a meercat. My non-athlete Mona started doing it out of the blue.

I’m glad to hear he’s doing so well!

Hey, congrats for the one month! My cat is nearly at his 3-week anniversary and he seems eager and able to do most things he used to do. Okay, he avoids going on the sofa, but I am fine with that. I’ve enjoyed and learned from reading your posts.

Yay! Oscar you are king of your castle, whether it’s outdoors or in. I’m happy to hear things are going well. Don’t worry about that weird leg sensation, it happens to everyone and for most it does go away. It just takes a while for the brain to realize what happened (shows ya how smart brains are, right?!). Massage helps.

I hope you get some good weather soon so you can venture out. I know it freaks your people to think you’ll go roaming again but Fang sure got to do it again so I know you will too. I’ll bet you can’t wait!

Happy ampuversary Oscar! It is amazing to see how they adapt, and it will just get better. Sebastian had some soreness in his remaining shoulder so I started giving him Dasuquin and regular shoulder massages. Both did wonders! His muscle will slowly build up too…you can actually see how beefed up Sebastian’s arm is now.

Here’s hoping for some warm weather for Oscar to go out and play in!!
